The Master of Engineering is a two year full-time (or part-time equivalent) course which is suitable for people who have previously completed a non-accredited engineering or technology degree and wish to upgrade to an accredited professional engineering qualification, or branch out into another discipline of specialisation. A range of specialisation options are available in this course, including Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrial Power, Instrumentation Control & Automation, Electronics & Communications, and Computer Systems.
The course requires the student to complete a set of units to match the selected specialisation and, in the second year, complete a thesis based on a substantial research and/or industry-based project that will run over two semesters. The course also requires students to complete (or have previously completed) 12 weeks of practicum work experience in a relevant industry environment.
Note: This degree may be awarded with Credit, Distinction or High Distinction subject to meeting specific academic performance standards. |

SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Applicants must provide proof of their previous university studies and the successful completion of a first degree, or equivalent. The applicant must also provide full details of all units completed. Depending on the chosen specialisation for the Masters degree the required pre-requisites will vary, but in cases where an applicant is deemed to not meet all of the required prerequisites, the applicant will be required to complete the one year Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science course as a way of meeting the prerequisite requirements prior to entering the Masters course.
Where a student has already completed postgraduate studies at level equivalent to or higher than that required in this course, advanced standing may be granted. |

COURSE STRUCTURE The Master of Engineering is a two year (full-time equivalent) award requiring 240 credit points of study comprising four core 15 credit point units, twelve 15 credit point engineering specialisation units and a 0 credit point practicum unit. The set of units to be taken depends on the chosen specialisation.
To complete the course the Engineering Practicum unit must be undertaken. This requires the student to complete a period of 12 weeks full time employment under the supervision of an engineer in an approved work situation. The Engineering Practicum can be undertaken during the break between the first and second years of the course, or at the conclusion of the second year (although note that this may delay graduation).
