The double degree program delivers two Bachelor degrees in a four-year course. Graduates receive a professional degree in secondary teaching and a recognised Arts degree that provides access to additional career options in the public sector or private industry. The double degree program provides a realistic and relevant balance between professional education studies and content studies for prospective secondary school teachers of home economics. Students enrol in education studies and Arts subjects, and undertake teaching practices in years two, three and four. The course includes an emphasis on theoretical and practical dimensions in the areas of family studies, textiles, hospitality and food science as well as relevant studies in Education.
Central to this course is an extensive program of Professional Practice in secondary schools which culminates in the Assistant Teacher Program in the final year. All students are required to adhere to the School of Education's Professional Practice Rules and Procedures and Code of Professional Conduct for ECU Pre-service Teachers which can be accessed at: http://www.education.ecu.edu.au/prac/. All students are required to be available during the scheduled Professional Practice periods as per the School of Education Calendar which is also available on the website. |

SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS All students enrolling in this course will be required to submit a National Criminal History Check Information Clearance (Crimtrac) before commencing their first period of Professional Practice. COURSE LOCATION This course is available on Joondalup Campus. Joondalup: Bachelor of Arts (Education)/ Bachelor of Social Science; (Home Economics) Minor teaching area (years 7-10) is only available on designated campuses. Minor teaching areas may be selected on either campus of the university; however students must be aware of travelling time. |
