The unit covers a variety of aspects associated with Education Assistants’ professional and career development including: (1) Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the workplace covering aspects of hygiene in the workplace, the OHS Act and its implications for the workplace; (2) the Education Assistant’s position in relation to “Duty of Care” within schools and its associated legal implications; (3) industrial relations systems, awards, workplace agreements, enterprise bargaining and other employment related policies; and, (4) strategies for applying for a position as an Education Assistant.
