ERS2201 Conceptions, Misconceptions, Alternative Conceptions and Analogies

Description:

This unit, together with ERS2202, provides an opportunity for students to develop knowledge and skills for teaching science to lower secondary level. In this unit the significance of conceptual-change models for teaching and learning will be explored through an investigation of the role of analogies in the development of scientific models. Science as a cultural construct will be revisited through an examination of indigenous science. Building on the understandings developed in ERS2102, negotiated assessment practices will be explored. Concepts in the area of Natural and Processed Materials will be covered. This unit is linked to work place practice and students will be required to link theory from the unit to their observations and experiences in school settings.
