This unit will examine the social phenomenon of the 'family' from a gender, cultural and social perspective. The unit studies the family as an apparent universal social system, which acts to influence and shape both individuals and communities. The unit will also study the family as a social institution within societies and its relationship to the needs and nature of society. The unit will examine the role of gender and culture in shaping how the family is understood as both a social structure and a dynamic setting for interchange between people. | |||
