The unit establishes the need for thought and investigation as a basis for serious musicianship. It will provide an introduction to the basic concepts, skills and vocabulary of musical analysis. The unit will stress the need for well-equipped musicians, regardless of their background, their instrument or their future directions, to be able to objectively and rationally analyse the music they play, both in the process of studying, performing, and teaching it.
