STSPED  Special Education

The specialised streams in the Graduate Certificate of Education, Learning Difficulties or Special Education are intended for trained teachers to prepare them for supporting students with specific needs in either a regular classroom or in a special education facility.

 

The special education course provides studies of both a theoretical and practical nature.  Within this stream, teachers will enhance their skills in assessing and planning for students with diverse abilities.  This will provide both regular class teachers and those who work in special education support facilities with the skills to organise effective programs for all children in their classes.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor degree in education, or Diploma of Teaching or degree and Graduate Diploma of Education, or equivalent.  Formal teaching/training qualifications are essential.  Students are encouraged to apply for Recognition for Prior Learning.

 

COURSE LOCATION AND MODE OF STUDY

The course is available by part-time study on Mount Lawley campus.  Units are currently being written in on-line mode and may become available on-line during 2003.

EDU5373 Foundation Studies and Current Issues in Special Education 15
EDU5477 Direct Instruction and Teaching Effectiveness in Special Education 15
Plus one unit selected from the Learning Difficulties stream
