Indigenous Studies Major

The Indigenous Studies Major gives students the opportunity to investigate and evaluate a range of matters important to Indigenous Australian peoples, including historical interpretation, identity politics, environmental perspectives, cultural practices, government policy, and economic development. In addition, students interrogate their own attitudes and assumptions concerning race and cultural diversity as they develop their cultural competencies. The major draws on academic disciplines of history and politics, media and the arts, as well as cultural, environmental and policy studies. The Indigenous Studies Major presents students with an Indigenous perspective on matters of interest to Indigenous peoples and the Australian public.

The Major in Indigenous Studies comprises 120 credit points (eight (8) units) selected from the units listed below, with no more than 30 credit points (two (2) units) at Level One.
Students must do a minimum of three IAS or ACS coded units.
