The unit introduces post-colonial theory in relation to literary texts in English from former colonies. The unit examines the impact of colonialism on these cultures. Students will explore how diverse writers have adapted English, the language of the colonial ruler, both to critique colonising voices and to celebrate contemporary postcolonial identities in contexts such as India or Africa.
