I52 Master of Clinical Nursing

This program is designed to allow nurse clinicians to enhance their individual specialty knowledge and competence whilst working in their selected area of specialisation. Theoretical and practical knowledge will be augmented by a substantial clinical project to enable the development of advanced critical thinking and project writing skills. The program encourages innovative evidence-based practice that will ultimately lead to improved nursing practice. Specialty fields include the following:

  • Critical Care Nursing – Coronary Care/Cardiothoracic Nursing
  • Critical Care Nursing - High Dependency
  • Critical Care Nursing - Intensive Care 
  • Critical Care Nursing - Paediatric Intensive Care

  • Emergency Nursing 
  • Gerontological Nursing 
  • Nephrology Nursing 
  • Neuroscience Nursing 
  • Oncology Nursing

SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All Registered Nurses who possess a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent may enrol in the Master of Clinical Nursing program with multiple exit points at Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master level. Registered Nurses with a hospital based Diploma working in the specialty will be considered at the discretion of the course coordinator.

 

The course requires that students work in an approved specialty area of their choice.

 

Students who have less than 12 months relevant specialty experience will be considered at the discretion of the course coordinator. 

 

Students must be working in their area of specialty for a minimum of 18 hours per week whilst undertaking this course.

 

A letter of support is required from the prospective student's employer.

 

Each student must provide a letter from a more experienced colleague (usually a Staff Development Nurse or Clinical Nurse) from their workplace expressing willingness to act as the student's clinical supervisor for the duration of the course.

Students will complete a total of 180 credit points (nine units). Students may choose from the following selected fields of study or negotiate other specialty fields with the course coordinator.
