IAS5100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health: Context and Policy

Description:

This unit examines current approaches to Australian Indigenous health within an historical, social and cultural context, which includes attention to traditional patterns of health and disease, traditional medical systems, and the impact of colonisation and past government policies and practices. After reviewing the broad range of factors contributing to Indigenous health status, the unit traces the development of mainstream and Indigenous community-controlled health services, and reviews current policies, strategies and programs. Australian Indigenous health issues are also related to Indigenous health internationally.
