Description:
This unit provides an overview of the issues related to managing and improving organizational business processes. A recent survey indicated that 94% of organizations are participating in some form of process improvement or re-design. The unit examines how an organization can move towards becoming a Process Managed Organization and introduces process management as involving three different levels – the enterprise, the process and implementation. The major concern at the enterprise level is to ensure that organizational processes support business goals. The unit introduces various high-level process architectures, process maturity models and enterprise methodologies to facilitate this linkage. At the process level organizations need to be able understand and improve business processes and to apply appropriate modeling techniques. The unit introduces various modelling techniques and improvement methodologies including the Rummler Brache methodology, Six Sigma and the Theory of Constraints. The latest modelling techniques (such as BPMN) and softwares (such as Aris Express) are demonstrated and used. At the implementation level the unit looks at how Business Process Management Suites (BPMS) can support process management and how ERP and CRM implementation can support and extend process change. Ebusiness technologies are also presented as important enabling platform for process improvement.
