Description:

This unit enables students to fundamentally understand business operations and financial controls through implementing the end-to-end business processes of a manufacturing company in an enterprise resource planning application. It is therefore of benefit to people studying finance and management. The outcome is a holistic view of business processes. This helps students to appreciate the benefits of information technology and understand the principles of implementing a major information system. The concepts and framework of enterprise resource planning are introduced and methods for establishing sound controls to meet organisational objectives identified. The unit will focus upon what is proclaimed to be today’s fastest growing enterprise planning application Microsoft Dynamics AX. The concepts and framework of enterprise software are introduced and rationale for deployment in organisations discussed. The key issue explored is how the functions and features of Dynamics AX can achieve organisational objectives and benefits. The unit has a major lab-based practical component where the features of the Dynamics AX application will be configured and administered by students.
