Information Services Major  
MABUUE 
U67 BACHELOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 
 

The Information Services Major requires students to complete 120 credit points (eight units) and provides a:

  • Bachelors degree pathway for current students and recent graduates of ECU's Associate Degree and other undergraduate library technology programs.  It equips students for a career in information services as a librarian, knowledge or information manager.
  • First major for commencing students seeking to pursue a career as a librarian, knowledge or information manager.

 

A. Bachelors degree pathway for current students and recent graduates of ECU's Associate Degree and other undergraduate library technology programs.  

 

Associate Degree of Science (Library Technology) (course M73) and the Bachelor of Science (Library Technology) (course E65) students and graduates, wishing to enter the Information Services major are eligible for advanced standing in the BIT (Information Services).

 

Subject to Course Coordinator approval and University policy,  Associate Degree of Science (Library Technology) and Bachelor of Science Library Technology students can receive up to 2 years (240 credit points) of advanced standing for these studies, requiring a further 120 credit points (8 units or 1 year equivalent full time study) to complete the Bachelor of Information Technology (Information Services).    Students must complete an additional program of Five (5) core units and Three (3) track units from a selected track drawn from the following track list:

  • Information  Systems (IS)
  • Information Management (IM)
  • Marketing
  • Management

 

Subject to the approval of the Course Coordinator, students may elect to do Three (3) electives in place of a track.

 

Conversion students wishing to pursue ACS membership eligibility must complete the Information Systems (IS) track.    Subject to the approval of the Course Coordinator,  conversion and first major students not wishing to pursue ACS membership eligibility, may also apply to do study track units or elective studies in place of the BIT common first year units  ENS1161, CSG1102 and CSP1150. 

 

B. Commencing students - Bachelor of Information Technology (Information Services) (First Major) (120 Credit points)

The Information Services major is also available as a first major for students eligible for University entry seeking to pursue a three year Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) qualification specialising in information services.  Students complete this major as their first major and choose a second major drawn from within the School of Computer and Security Science or the School of Management.   Students may also elect to study Eight (8) electives in place of a second major.

This unit set is available on Mt Lawley Campus.
 
MODE OF DELIVERY
This unit set is available in the following modes of delivery - On-campus, and Online.

The major is available in mixed mode, with some units available in online mode only, requiring a computer and internet connection. Students should consult the semester timetable for details of online and on-campus unit availability.
