The Bachelor of Performing Arts provides an education program catering for emerging needs of the performance and related industries. It explores original, self-devised and collaborative approaches to researching, creating, producing and presenting contemporary arts practice. It focuses on all aspects of performance in a broader context rather than specialised training in the performance of theatre, dance or music. It seeks to unlock limitations and look at the ever-evolving nature of contemporary practice and in particular new forms of presentation and production. Within the current landscape there is a need for training which builds skills to work across the diversity of art forms, encouraging students to think as an actor, writer, designer, director, manager and producer simultaneously. The course provides students with coherent knowledge of the performing arts underpinned by core performance and management skills necessary to gain professional employment as a contemporary arts practitioner. It combines theory and technical knowledge with the opportunity for students to focus on a particular discipline or area of practice in the third year. Students will learn to develop independent thinking, with practical elements providing opportunities for self-directed learning and work individually and as part of a cohesive team.

Standard University admission requirements apply. Applications are submitted via the Education & Arts Online Application System. Applicants for the Performance Making major must also apply through TISC.

Admission is based on an audition and interview. Applicants will be assessed on their ability to meet the technical requirements of the course and their suitability for the industry.

The Bachelor of Performing Arts is a 360 credit point, three year full-time award with the following main components:

• A core program of four Foundation units (60 credit points) and four Special Skills units (60 credit points);
• A major program consisting of 120 credit points (select either the Performance Making major or the Practice Transition major listed below);
• With the approval of the Course Coordinator, a supplementary program of 120 credit points, from one of the following options:
• A minor from within or outside the School, plus electives, to total 120 credit points, or
• An elective program of 120 credit points,
• A second major from within or outside the School, totalling 120 credit points.
