This major is designed for students wishing to become secondary Visual Arts teachers. Students will also select a minor area of study from across a broad range of other study areas including Physical Education, Outdoor Education, Music, Drama, English, Social Sciences, Home Economics, Design and Technology, Computing, Mathematics and Biological or Physical Sciences. The course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to teach Years 7-12 visual education with emphasis on visual literacy foundations, but allows graduates to also work in the K-6 setting as specialist teachers, as well as in a minor field of study. Emphasis is placed upon collaborative pedagogies whilst acknowledging the importance of individual creative practice. Graduates will be eligible to seek employment in both government and non-government secondary schools.
