I57 Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)

This cross-institutional Master of Nursing degree (by coursework) enables the student to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills as a component of their application to apply for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner to the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia. Developed in conjunction with Flinders University, South Australia, part one of the program enables the student to enhance their individual knowledge and skill whilst working in their selected area of specialisation and then, through the second part of the program, to acquire the theoretical knowledge and skills required of a Nurse Practitioner in a specialist nurse or extended practice role.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A relevant bachelor degree or equivalent prior learning including at least five years appropriate professional experience. 

 

 
SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

With effect from semester 1, 2013 the following mandatory admission criteria will take effect:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA);
  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent and postgraduate qualification in specialty;
  • Evidence of five years full-time post registration experience, of which three years must be in the chosen specialty area and one year at Advanced Practice level;
  • Evidence of working a minimum of 20 hours per week in specialty;
  • A letter of support from employer;
  • A letter of support from a nominated Clinical Facilitator who will be a Registered Nurse Practitioner or a Registered Medical Officer with at least three years in specialty at registrar level or higher;
  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Evidence of professional associations' membership and on-going contribution to the profession.
