Teachers use a sophisticated set of communication skills and technologies to make learning engaging and valued. This unit explores a range of communication skills required both for university study and the teaching profession. The unit will focus on developing students’ literacy, inquiry and ICT skills through a study of topics related to current issues in Australian schools. Students’ literacy skills will be enhanced by investigating effective strategies for reading and text analysis, academic writing and public speaking. The unit also aims to develop students’ inquiry skills with a particular focus on sourcing, evaluating and critiquing physical and electronic resources. Students will work with ICT to explore ways of collaborating, communicating and connecting and also to develop an Electronic Portfolio (e-Portfolio) for recording and reflecting upon evidence of their educational progress, achievements and skills.
