SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE
Credit Points: 15
Prerequisites:
SPE3107 Clinical Practicum 1

Description:

This unit provides students with 'hands-on' clinical experience in a community or hospital facility. Students will attend a health or educational facility for 12 days throughout semester and will undertake observation of clinical work, together with supervised case management involving assessment, intervention planning and implementation, and case discussions with clients, their families, and relevant professionals. Teamwork will be an integral part of the practicum. Clinical placements may have a focus on either adult or paediatric communication and/or swallowing disorders and clients will cross a range of cultural backgrounds. The placements will be supplemented with weekly clinical tutorials to assist in student preparation for the placement and to provide a venue for discussion of clinical reasoning skills and professional practice, including verbal and written communication with clients and other professionals. This unit should be undertaken in conjunction with SPE3106 Management of Speech and Language Disorders.
