MABUTE  Media, Culture and Mass Communications Major

This major explores the social and cultural context of media. Students will examine the influence and power of media and the forces that affect them. It introduces students to a significant range of contemporary theoretical and critical approaches used to analyse media texts, media technologies and their position in the world today. The course also allows students to construct a hybrid program of study which looks at theory and practice in fields such as advertising, journalism, public relations and visual communication. It trains students to think critically and to communicate effectively.

Plus select 60 credit points (4 units) from the following:

CMM3129 Contemporary Issues in Culture 15
MST3151 Media and Identity 15
OR
Select up to 30 credit points from the above list of units, plus a further 30 credit points of Level Two or Level Three ADV, BRO, JOU or PRN coded units.
