K21 Bachelor of Event, Sport and Recreation Management

The Bachelor of Event, Sport and Recreation Management is designed to provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills for a career in the sport and recreation industries, including the growth area within these sectors of event management. This strong, industry-based course is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge, competencies and professional attitudes required by middle and senior levels of management in these areas. The course commences with an introduction to the sport and recreation industries and focuses upon an application of the key aspects of facility planning, economics and finance, legal aspects, research methods, business planning, and relevant professional practice opportunities. Its specialist units in the areas of sport, recreation and event management focus upon the global delivery systems of sport; the management of people in sporting organisations; sport marketing; program development and delivery; the influence of psycho-social factors on recreational behaviour and lifestyle choices; the management of recreation services; sport venue and event management; and the broader management of special events (e.g. festivals, concerts, and community events). This course also provides students with the opportunity to further specialise in various fields (such as marketing, sports science, human resource management, public relations, tourism, or eco-recreation) to give their studies a stronger industry focus in that area.

An Event, Sport and Recreation Management degree offers career opportunities in management in the diverse areas of sport organisations, recreation services, event management companies, sport and recreation facilities, tourist resorts, voluntary agencies, commercial businesses, government departments, educational institutions, as well as facilitating sport, outdoor recreation and interpretation programs.
