This unit provides the opportunity to analyse and discuss some of the most notable themes and issues emerging in the modern world since 1860. Among them are Marxism, Darwinism, the "New Imperialism", Modernism in thought and art, the origins of World War I, the Bolshevik Revolution and the stresses endured by Europe and the western world between 1918 and 1945. Decolonisation and independence will also be considered, as well as the changes affecting western civilisation in the 1980s. Full Unit Outline | |||
