Description:

This unit considers the history of expansionist strategies of various states and their impacts on colonised peoples from ancient to modern times. Empires and colonies from different periods and geographic locations are studied using a variety of theoretical approaches to the analysis of imperialism and colonialism.  Students will gain an understanding of imperialism, colonialism and the impacts of these historical, political and economic processes on people in the metropolitan centres and peripheries of empires.
