Description:

This unit traces the cultural context of media from modernity to the rapidly developing cyber technologies of today. It encourages students to investigate ways in which technological change in the media is paralleled by cultural and social change. Students are invited to apply theoretical approaches in this unit to an online research project that has either a regional, national or international focus via a blog site or virtual community. They can chose topics specific to a range of media issues including online events, virtual reality, the creative industries or globalisation.
