Description:
This unit examines the ways in which theories of psychology, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy have been and can be applied within Film Studies. It explains basic psychological concepts and the psychoanalytic ideas of Freud, Lacan, Jung, Reich and other pertinent theorists and then looks at how these have been and can be used within a study of cinema. It asks students to question, explore and apply these approaches to film texts. It focuses particularly on an application of psychoanalytical concepts to film narratives and the idea of the viewing subject.
