ERC2100 Middle Schooling: Philosophy and Practice

Description:
This unit aims to help students gain a deeper understanding of middle schooling by examining its origins, rationale, ideology, structures, distinguishing characteristics, and place in educational and social reforms. Consideration is also given to examining educational, cultural, organisational, professional and industrial factors that enhance and impede the success of middle schooling. The knowledge and understandings gained during the unit will help students develop a clear conception of the nature and purpose of middle year teachers’ work, the limits and opportunities for making a career in middle years’ teaching, and what it means to be a middle years’ teacher.
