GEO3122 Plagues of the 21st Century: Human Health and Global Environmental Change
SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ARTS
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit introduces students to complex relationships between health, disease and global environmental change.  What social and environmental changes are influencing the proliferation of contemporary diseases like Ebola virus, HIV/AIDS, cholera, bubonic plague, malaria, dengue fever?  Global changes in climate, land use, mobility of people, urbanisation, diets, industrial production, agricultural practices, and contemporary warfare are bringing about changes in the characteristics and distribution of human health and diseases.  Changes in technology, in economic and social organization, and in belief about causes and treatment of ill-health continually change human interactions with the global environment.
