ECF1600 Financial Aspects of Business
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Credit Points: 15

Description:

The management and understanding of money is a vital aspect of business success. From the smallest business to the largest none will survive if their finances are not properly managed. Good financial decisions are based on the rules of economics. This unit starts with some principles of good personal financial decisions in business. It explains how to interpret (rather than prepare) financial statements such as the balance sheet and profit and loss statement. You will be introduced to the analysis of these statements to assess the health of the business and areas of financial risk. There are two key financial decisions for any business: how to raise money and how to invest it. This unit explores both. On the capital raising side various options appropriate to small and/or large business are considered along with an overview of the role of financial markets. On the investment side the unit will introduce you to the techniques required to evaluate investments and projects to make good financial decisions.
