COU3101 Humanistic Models of Counselling

Description:

The purpose of the unit is to familiarise students with the primary concerns of existential and humanistic theories of counselling. The first half of the unit will focus on the philosophical foundations of existential-phenomenology. Students will then be introduced to the work of existential practitioners and to the way in which the approach has been applied to the counselling relationship. The second half of the unit will provide an introduction and understanding of the humanistic tradition of counselling with particular reference to the work of Carl Rogers the founder of the person-centred approach.
