INTRODUCTION The Bachelor of Business degree has been designed to enable students to succeed in their chosen business profession. The course structure allows students to choose one or two major areas of study from accounting, business law, economics, finance, management, management of information technology and marketing. A feature of the course is the Business Edge units: a set of integrated general and professional skills units designed to link academic and professional pathways for educational development. The Faculty offers a supportive environment with expert staff who are committed to quality teaching and research.
After the first semester of full-time study, students choose a Major, Double Major or Supplementary program they wish to follow. Currently, the following Majors are available:
1. Accounting: This Major has been designed for students seeking careers as professional accountants or in any financial area of business. The major combines sound accounting principles with practical business applications.
2. Business Law: This Major supports students' employability in careers such as accounting, management and marketing.
3. Economics: This Major is designed for students intending to pursue a career as business economists or economic consultants in a wide range of corporate management roles.
4. Finance: This Major has been designed for students who propose to follow a career in finance. Graduates in finance are to be found in stockbroking, investment management, financial advisory roles and the finance division of all types and sizes of companies.
5. Human Resource Management: This Major provides the theoretical and practical foundations for a human resource management practitioner.
6. Industrial Relations: This Major is designed for students who wish to acquire specialist skills for a career in industrial relations or human resource management in the public or private sphere or in trade unions. This is only available in conjunction with a Major in Human Resource Management.
7. International Business: This Major has been designed for students intending to pursue a business career with an international focus.
8. Management: This Major has been designed to prepare students for a future in management and focuses on understanding people at work and how organisations operate.
9. Management of Information Technology: The effective use of IT is increasingly critical to business; this major will address the development and management of technology in today's fast changing business landscape.
10. Marketing: This Major has been designed to provide appropriate education for students seeking a wide range of positions in the marketing, sales and marketing communications sector.
The Supplementary program offers students a choice of units to complete their degree. Options available include a Second Major program, a Supporting Major (from another Faculty), a Minor program, or a selection of Elective units from those offered within the Bachelor of Business award or (with approval) from other awards of the Faculty of Business and Law or (with approval) from outside the Faculty. |
