Prerequisites:
SPS1106 Foundations of Human Performance

Description:

This unit investigates bioenergetics and the cardiorespiratory system as they apply to exercise. Both structure and function of the cardiorespiratory system are covered with special emphasis on how it adjusts to meet the demands of aerobic exercise in both elite athletes and the general population. Selected biochemical pathways will be studied in relation to energy supply during participation in, and recovery from, specific types of exercise. The unit also focuses on two aspects of exercise prescription. Both the basic principles of exercise programming and the competencies required in fitness appraisal will be covered.
