Credit Points: 15

Description:

The sociology of health and medicine examines the social construction of medical knowledge, the social distribution of health and illness, and various policy responses to health and illness. Different theoretical perspectives are required to understand the interaction between the ideas about medicine and the material effects of health and illness. Challenges to the dominance of scientific medicine has opened the space for identifying social determinants of health and illness, and also for understanding that remedies include social and political change.
