SAN1104 Cultures of the World
SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ARTS
Credit Points: 15

Description:

Human societies entail cultural 'differences' and separate identities. Yet, as with ordinary families, it is the presence of sameness and differences within the family of Humankind, Homo Sapiens, that we need to understand if Humankind is to prosper more equitably and, arguably, to survive at all. Cultural 'differences' are a source of ignorance, ethnic conflict, and regional and international instability, yet at this moment in our evolution, marked by Globalisation, we have both the opportunity and the need to understand ourselves and others like never before. This unit using case studies, places an emphasis on ethnographic and documentary film, to explore cultures and the ramifications of globalisation.
