M67 Bachelor of Leisure Sciences

The Bachelor of Leisure Sciences is designed to provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills for a career in the diverse leisure industry. The program includes leadership skills, program development, facility planning and evaluation, community development, fundamental business principles and relevant professional practice opportunities. There is also the opportunity to specialise in various fields to give studies a specific industry focus.

 

A Leisure Sciences degree offers employment opportunities in the diverse areas of leisure services, tourist resorts, voluntary agencies, sport and recreation associations and facilities, educational institutions, outdoor recreation and interpretation programs.

 

Graduates have been successful in obtaining positions as recreation officers in local government, leisure centre managers, adventure recreation instructors, aquatic centre managers, children’s program leaders, managers and planners of recreation services in voluntary agencies for youth, Aboriginal people, aged and people with disabilities, government departments and commercial businesses.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the Bachelor of Leisure Sciences degree at Joondalup is competitive. Meeting ECU minimum admission requirements does not guarantee enrolment.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Bachelor of Leisure Sciences degree requires a minimum of 360 credit points and normally requires three years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.

The degree has the following main components:

(i) a core program of fourteen (14) units of 15 credit points = 210 credit points

(ii) a supplementary program of ten (10) units of 15 credit points = 150 credit points consisting of:

  • a 10 unit supporting major; or
  • an 8 unit major or supporting major and 2 electives; or
  • a 6 unit minor and a 4 unit minor; or
  • a 6 unit minor and 4 electives;or
  • two 4 unit minors and 2 electives.

 

NOTE: All Bachelor of Leisure Sciences students must complete a minimum of 75 credit points at third year level and no more than 150 credit points at first year level.

To complete the degree students must undertake a supplementary program of ten (10) units of 15 credit points = 150 credit points.
