CSV3107 Welfare and Community Work Practicum
SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE
Credit Points: 15
Prerequisites:
Concurrent enrolment in Bachelor of Social Science (G36) and completion of at least 50% of the required practicum associated with the major
 
Description:

This unit enables students to meet the practicum requirements for accreditation with the Australian Institute of Welfare and Community Workers.  Individual placement contracts will be drawn up with each student in the unit to ensure that, across all the practical requirements of their double  major, they meet the required outcomes for AIWCW accreditation.  As of 2004 these requirements are:

  1. Professional practice must meet the ethical requirements of AIWCW.
  2. A minimum of 400 hours supervised placement with no placement being less than 100 hours.
  3. Professional supervision of one hour per 40 hours placement.
  4. There must be at least 2 placements that must not be in the same or very similar settings, fields of practice or methods.  Placement must vary significantly in at least one of these.
  5. One placement may be in a current or previous workplace but not both.  Workplace placement must be evidenced by a report from an appropriately qualified supervisor.
