WMS3106 Women, Work and Leadership

Description:

This unit is designed to develop student awareness and understanding of the personal, cultural, historical, and structural forces that influence women in the workforce. The unit will explore the nature of "women's work" and examine the reasons for the high level of sex segregation in the labour market. The extent of women's unpaid and voluntary work will be considered; as well as industrial and health issues in the workplace, such as maternity provisions, childcare, sexual harassment, part-time work, union membership, etc. In addition, the unit will investigate present legislation and programmes aimed at enhancing women's career opportunities.
