HIS3124 The History and Sociology of Genocide

Description:

This course concentrates upon the phenomenon of genocide in history. Commencing with the vexed issue of the definition of genocide, the course will address a number of historical and sociological issues raised by occurrences of genocide. Concentration will be upon the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide, and the experience of indigenous people, particularly Australian Aborigines. The course will develop an analytical framework for comprehending genocide and encourage students to engage critically with issues of genocide denial.
