WRT3114 Writing and Editing
SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ARTS

Description:

This unit familiarises students with the elements of structural and copy editing. It assumes students will be able to take final responsibility for editing text that is to be published or presented without further revision. Using simple examples, such as newsletters, anthology collections and monographs, students will learn to reconsider the introductory, main body and conclusion of the text, including significant changes to the order of the items. Reduction in length of text and precis will also be practised. In copy editing, students will increase their knowledge of professional proofreading symbols and their application. They will also study the elements of typography and text layout.
