An introduction to a variety of contemporary techniques will be studied in the unit emphasising an increased understanding of the mechanical balance of the skeletal structure. The unit develops increased body awareness and movement efficiency through an introduction to neuro-muscular repatterning. Allied areas of study include alignment and improvisation. No one contemporary dance technique is prescribed and students will experience a range of current contemporary techniques based on principles from release work and the Graham, Cunningham and Limon techniques.
