Q61 / D77 Graduate Diploma in New Literary and Cultural Studies

The Graduate Diploma in New Literary and Cultural Studies aims to enhance knowledge skills and attitudes of interested individuals ‑ university lecturers and secondary school teachers in particular ‑ in relation to the new literatures in English and the new theoretical perspectives relevant to the study of these and traditional literatures.

 

ADMISSION  REQUIREMENTS

A three-year degree or equivalent in literary studies or a related discipline or University Certificate in New Literary and Cultural Studies.

 

COURSE LOCATION AND MODE STUDY

The course is available by full-time or part-time study on Mount Lawley campus.
 

 
The course consists of eight units of study:
ENG4133 Australian Literature and Film 15
and either
ENG3207 Reading Theory 15
or both of
ENG4112 Literature, Discourse and Society 15
and
ENG4109 Literature, Language and Textuality 15
 
Plus five or six units selected in consultation with the course coordinator from the units listed below to make a total of eight units.
 
ENG4108 Post-coloniality: The West and Its Others 15
ENG4113 Australian Literature and Society (Contemporary) 15
ENG4114 Australian Drama 15
ENG4115 Australian Narrative: the Modernist Impulse 15
ENG4116 Literature: Special Area Study *(Australian postcolonial focus) 15
ENG4119 Post-colonial Literature Perspectives 15
ENG4135 Author Study *(Australian postcolonial focus) 15
ENG4138 Period Study *(Australian postcolonial focus) 15
 
Unless otherwise specified in unit prerequisites, units may be studied in any order.
 
Note: Units marked with an * have flexible content and the material in parentheses does not constitute part of the title of the unit nor does it restrict the content of the unit within other situations. For the purposes of the present course, an offering of the unit with an Australian or Postcolonial focus or topic, as approved by the course coordinator, may be credited towards the course.
