MYS4108 Teaching Middle Years Society and Environment 1

Description:

This unit is the first of two sequential units (MYS4108 and MYS4218) preparing students to teach Society and Environment (S&E) in the middle years.

 

In this unit students will explore the conceptual and process outcomes of S&E. The unit will provide an understanding of the WA curriculum framework, as applied to S&E for upper primary school students. The relationship between S&E - specific student learning outcomes and generic competencies will be explored, as will the relationship between S&E - specific professional standards of teaching and general principles of best pedagogical practice in the middle years of schooling. Particular consideration will be given to integrated teaching/learning strategies for making S&E interesting, relevant and useful for young adolescents in the upper primary years. Students will have the opportunity to effectively plan outcomes-based learning experiences appropriate for years 6 and 7.
