The unit examines the major paradigms in philosophy of language and explores theories developed in those paradigms in depth. Students will study the nature of truth and meaning and, in general, the connections between language and the world. During the unit students will look at some of the most prominent works of the twentieth century, works which have influenced the development of theories in many other areas of modern philosophy, and so provide insight into how theories in those areas are best understood. Because the unit examines the use of language in detail, it is a natural successor to the PHR1102 Critical Thinking unit. Full Unit Outline | |||
