ERG3220 Foundations of Reading and Writing - Development, Process and Instruction

Description:

This unit directly builds on the theory and practices examined in the previous unit, Literacies and Learners.  It makes strong links with oral language skills and its relationship to the acquisition and development of reading and writing skills.  In this unit students will research the psychological, socio-cultural and linguistic dimensions of fundamental literacy skills which include aspects associated with reading, writing and viewing skills. This unit will explore the literacy development from early childhood to early adolescent developmental phases.  Preservice teachers will review reading, writing and viewing strategies in a variety of genres including literature, informational texts and through a variety of mediums.
