PHR3100 Philosophy, Film and Narrative

Description:
This unit introduces students to the philosophical study of film. The core of the unit will be a philosophical exploration of the nature of film and cinematic representation, of narrative, genre, character identification and emotional response, including discussion of the paradox of fiction and the paradox of horror. The unit will examine the ethical dimension of film production and distribution, including discussion of pornography and censorship, documentary and the moral responsibility of the artist. The presentation of philosophical ideas through film are also explored.
