MYS4007 Teaching Middle Years Science
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Credit Points: 12

Description:
This unit is designed to motivate students to make science exciting, interesting and relevant for young adolescents. It will also provide them with opportunities to develop theoretical knowledge needed to interpret the curriculum and make appropriate judgements and decisions related to the teaching of science. During the unit, the curriculum framework and science learning outcomes for Western Australia will be examined in terms of teaching science in the middle years of schooling. Students will develop a repertoire of teaching skills and strategies for engaging young adolescents in meaningful learning that leads to a powerful understanding of science concepts. Science content of interest to adolescents will be explored to give students confidence in their own knowledge and recognition of alternative conceptions and appropriate pathways of adolescent learning.
