Assessment criteria are: punctuality, initiative, ability to work unsupervised, communication skills, writing skills, organising ability, understanding of the industry, interpersonal skills, attitude, and attention to detail.

Students spend ten weeks (a total of fifty consecutive working days) in full employment with industry outlets, under daily employer supervision. Supervisors provide assessment reports to the unit coordinator on the student's progress. Students keep a diary of daily duties carried out an submit a final self-assessment report paper to the unit coordinator.
