Description:

With the emergence of a highly competitive domestic and global economy over the past decade, society has witnessed constant social, technological, economical and political (STEP) changes.  In response, police organisations are experiencing a profound paradigm shift in societal and political expectations of the role of policing.  Police managers are being challenged to review the policing strategies of their own agency structures, practices and policies to ensure that they are appropriate to meet the demands of the contemporary policing environment.

This unit aims to provide students with an understanding of the critical principles facing police managers in contemporary society.  It has been structured around a practicable and philosophical approach to assist students to develop the necessary skills required to examine, understand and address future challenges.  It also provides opportunities for students to critically analyse current and future pressures and to reflect how these pressures will impact on their organisations
