Description:

This unit comprises an in-depth study of the craft of scoring for Large ensembles.  An introduction to conducting and musical direction skills as applied to the Jazz & Classical idioms.  Throughout the year one hour per week will be spent in the classical Department, studying basic conducting techniques.  (Conducting Skills II Unit CON4117).  students should enrol in this unit separately.  Students will begin a study of advanced harmonic techniques as applied to composition in the Jazz idiom.  Basic orchestral writing techniques will also be introduced.
