DESCRIPTION

The unit is a capstone unit for the major in management and draws on knowledge from the student’s previous studies in the Bachelor of Business degree. Conventional wisdom and organisational dynamics will be examined in detail. Emphasis will be placed on the understanding of the fundamental concepts underlying the study of strategy, the process of strategic management, and the role of strategy in matching an organisation’s competencies with its environment. The student will apply concepts in the analysis and development of strategies for business organisations.

 
LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this unit students should be able to:


  1. understand the fundamental concepts underlying the study of strategy;
  2. understand the role of strategy in matching an organisation’s competencies with its environment in both static and dynamic contexts;
  3. understand the processes of formulation and implementation of strategy, especially those processes of strategic management that may lead to success; and
  4. be able to apply concepts in the analysis and development of strategy for a business organisation.

TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESSES

On-campus students attend a weekly three hour seminar.

 

Off-campus students access their program online via Blackboard and will include the unit plan, powerpoint slides and reading material. Regular online access is required.
