Ocean engineers are involved in the design of some of the largest, most complex, and most expensive structures produced by humankind including offshore structures such as oil and gas platforms, subsea pipelines, submersible vehicles, and the wide range of infrastructure associated with the ports and harbour facilities required to service them.
Ocean engineers have strong employment opportunities in many sectors of industry including oil and gas, alternative energy, coastal engineering, underwater vehicles, port and harbour design, defence, and consulting. Graduates can also apply for any suitable position open to structural engineers.
This course is offered in collaboration with the Australian Maritime College at the University of Tasmania in Launceston, Tasmania. The first two years of the course are delivered at ECU's Joondalup Campus. The final two years are delivered at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston and students will need to relocate to Launceston for this portion of the course.
HONOURS IN ENGINEERING Students whose performance over the four years of the course is of a high standard may be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours degree.
PRACTICUM REQUIREMENTS During the course, students will be required to undertake a minimum of 12 weeks relevant industry work experience. This will normally be undertaken during a vacation period.
ACCREDITATION This course has been provisionally accredited by Engineers Australia. Full accreditation is normally granted when the first cohort of students graduate from the program. This is expected in 2015. |

SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Satisfactory performance in WACE Mathematics 3C/3D or Mathematics Specialist 3C/3D or equivalent. WACE Physics 3A/3B, or equivalent is desirable.
Note: Students who have not passed WACE Physics 3A/3B or equivalent will be required to complete a bridging unit during the first year of their studies. |
